Social Superstar Concierge: Sharon Prososki

The moment you walk into Salons by JC Waite Park, you are guaranteed to be greeted and assisted by the exceptional concierge, Sharon Prososki. With 30 years of stylist experience under her belt, Sharon provides an unparalleled understanding of the beauty industry. Salons by JC has been fortunate to have her as a member of the Salons by JC family for the past four years.

A Social Sensation

“I was reluctantly retiring due to neck and back issues,” Sharon says. “One of my girlfriends Patti, another stylist, told me about Salons by JC Waite Park opening and said we should go check it out to see if they needed a receptionist. We went to check it out, and as luck would have it, they did need a receptionist. I applied for the job and was hired!”

Sharon Prososki – Salons by JC Waite Park

Not only has Sharon taken on the job of Waite Park’s concierge, she also goes above and beyond in her job of handling the Salon by JC Waite Park’s social media pages, including Facebook and Instagram. She has taken on and excelled in social media for her salon suite owners by posting daily, highlighting their beautiful and high skill work. Sharon wasn’t always tech savvy though, but with the help of her family and coworkers, she has become a pro.

“I decided to take on the daunting task of social media when Andrew asked me to start posting on Facebook,” she explains. “While on a family vacation, I had my sons set me up on Facebook and teach me as much as they could. I also had Sarah, one of the gals at the salon, help me a lot in the beginning. Through trial and error, I got better at posting as time went on. In the last year Marlene Romo Flores, from the corporate marketing team, started working with me. From there, things got much easier. She has lots of social media experience and great ideas that were very helpful to me! I’m thankful to everyone that taught me along the way.”

Jack of All Trades

After being self-employed for 28 years, transitioning from a stylist to a concierge was very different for Sharon. Working set hours and working directly under a company was almost foreign to her, but she’s loved every minute of this new chapter in her life and has learned so much!

Sharon Proski with a Salon Suite Owner

“Andrew, Bert, and Nancy are such great owners and treat me like family, so it’s been a  wonderful working experience with Salons by JC. I have become a jack of all trades!” she exclaims. “Not only do I work with carpenters, plumbers, electricians, internet techs, electronic door techs, property managers and the owners, but I’ve learned to do a little bit of plumbing and computer troubleshooting on my own! I am relied upon to help the stylists with day to day issues, as well as helping new stylists set up their business accounts and get their suites ready.”

The most rewarding aspect of her role as a concierge in our Salons by JC family is being able to use her 28 years of self-employed experience to help other stylists make the step from employee to business owner.

Salons by JC is proud to have concierges like Sharon!

Sharon expresses, “My goal from here is to help fill our remaining suites and provide a wonderful working atmosphere that will help our stylists will thrive for the long-term and help them keep their businesses running smoothly!”

We want to thank you for all of your hard work Sharon! Salons by JC truly appreciates everything you bring to the table!

My Suite Story – Derrick LaMott

There’s nothing more valuable in someone’s beauty arsenal as a rock-star hair stylist, and at Salons by JC High Point, Derrick LaMott is exactly that. As a certified Redken colorist and master stylist,  Derrick has earned his title of being one of High Point’s top salon suite owners.

Derrick LaMott – Owner of MIЯROR at Salons by JC High Point

About Derrick

If you ask MIЯROR’s Derrick LaMott what sets him apart in the industry, it’s his love and talent for color.

“I love color!” Derrick exclaims. “As a certified Redken specialist, I am a natural colorist. I love giving my clients a sunkissed, baby light hair, or blended dimensional effect kind of look!”

After 10 years of honing in on his craft, Derrick and his husband made their move from the midwest after Derrick’s husband received a job offer in North Carolina. That was the beginning of Derrick’s journey to Salons by JC. Since then, Derrick’s journey towards becoming one of North Carolina’s finest salon owners has been nothing short of amazing.

“I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do after our move.” Darrick shares. “After working at SalonCentric, I knew I wanted to reinvent myself, my brand, and do my own thing. I didn’t want to be in a traditional salon setting.”

The opportunity as a suite salon owner at Salons by JC fell into Derrick’s lap. In February 2018, his salon suite, MIЯROR, was born. He specializes in a variety of hair services that will have you walking out feeling beautiful.

Collaboration can achieve wonderful things

Although Derrick had no idea what to expect walking into this new chapter as a suite owner, he has done an excellent job of successfully establishing his brand and reputation at Salons by JC High Point. He credits his personal successes as a suite owner to his peers at High Point for contributing to his brand.

From slick straight to bouncy, Derrick LaMott styles all types of hair

“I truly lucked out meeting all the wonderful people that I have since I opening my suite. I met a fellow Salons by JC colleague who was such a huge help in building my clientele that helped my salon boom! Word of mouth has also had such a huge impact on my business.”

Derrick has been fortunate to have supportive people cheering and rooting for him throughout his journey, and has even reached 6,000 hits on his Facebook video promoting MIЯROR.

Salons by JC has also offered so much in terms of building my clientele and it’s been amazing. I really could not have done it without Shane, our concierge and front desk manager. With her help, she has made opening up my salon so much easier. She is just wonderful.”

Beauty comes from inside the hair salon

The moment you walk into MIЯROR, expect lots of fun, absolute professionalism, and beautiful decor.

“I’m actually in the middle of redoing the whole decor of my salon. So, to my clients, be ready for a new look soon!”

Derrick LaMott’s redesigned MIЯROR salon suite with chandeliers and plenty of mirrors

Derrick absolutely loves that at Salons by JC, he is able to make his suite his own. “It’s all mine! I love the intimacy factor for not only myself but for my clients. The whole suite concept is a movement that professionals and stylists I feel really look for now. This eliminates any negative drama and entails a private and positive environment. In addition intimacy, it’s also still very much a community here at High Point and I value that so much!”

We are so proud of your successes thus far at Salons by JC Derrick! You rock!

Concierge of the Year- Alexandra Moise

Shaking up the distinguished Manhattan beauty industry with its unique salon suite community is what drives Alexandra Moise on a daily basis.  The passion to see others shine and her dedication to their success has earned her the title of Salons by JC Concierge of the Year for 2018.

Jack Griffey, Shaurja Ray, Concierge of the Year – Alexandra Moise, Barrett Tuttle, and Cecil Miller

Beauty Foundation

Alexandra began her career in the beauty industry over 10 years ago working for some of the top brands nationwide as their Spa/Salon Director.  “I grew up in the beauty industry and that gave me the foundation and drive that I needed for success”, stated Alexandra. Working for Warren Tricomi inside The Plaza Hotel and the Guerlain Spa inside The Waldorf Astoria Hotel taught her the importance of responsibility and shaped her into the professional she is today.

“I was lucky enough to have amazing mentors that trusted me and took the time to ensure I had the necessary tools to perform at the highest level”. Managing teams of 20 to 100 employees, coordinating location grand openings, training sessions, photo shoots, special events, and administrative duties showed Alexandra how to continuously build teams and businesses.

Alexandra with one of the Manhattan salon suite owners and their client

The Salons by JC Journey

“I still vividly remember the day that I applied for this position.  At first, I wasn’t sure what the position entailed or some of the requirements.  Once I read more about it, I decided to apply and the rest is history”, said Alexandra.  After meeting Barrett Tuttle and Shaurja Ray, owners of Salons by JC Manhattan, she knew that Salons by JC was exactly where she was meant to be.  “We shared common business strategies, goals, and views. I knew that with our combined efforts we would build the next big thing and take over the Manhattan beauty industry.”

As she set her sights on growing her career, she knew that Salons by JC would utilize her expertise and also give her the work/life balance she had been searching for. Her ample salon background made Alexandra stand out to Barrett Tuttle and Shaurja Ray, “Alexandra had extensive salon and spa experience before she joined us which helped her speak the same language as a lot of our salon suite owners. Whilst not necessary when hiring a concierge, we found it extremely helpful in our first location as we had no experience in the beauty industry”, stated Shaurja Ray, Owner at Salons by JC Manhattan.

Building a Suite Community

“The best part about what we built and continue to build is our Salons by JC community,” stated Alexandra.  The Manhattan location focused on creating a family environment among their salon suite owners. One that shares common goals and values.  Putting their salon suite owners first with an understanding that their success comes from their salon suite owners. “We wanted a safe and happy environment where people can build something extraordinary”, stated Alexandra.  The trio created a seamless system of operations ensuring that all new salon suite owners are on-boarded with the necessary tools needed to succeed as small business owners. “We equip them with all the business tools for success”, stated Alexandra. “We have the best of the industry under one roof.  Our beauty professionals are dedicated, artistic, business savvy and eager for more education to grow their business. This is what they receive as Salons by JC salon suite owners.  In turn, they create the ultimate VIP experience for their guests”.

Community Outreach

This energy has transcended into the area of community outreach for the Manhattan location.  In February, they partnered with The Fashion Foundation and hosted a “Get Glam to Give Back” event.  The salon hosted over 60 attendees and raised over $1,400 for the organization in just 2 hours. The guests adored the event space at the Manhattan location and the salon suite owners were thrilled to have new faces in their location to see what services were offered.  Their generosity didn’t end there. In April, the salon suite owners were able to donate over $6,500 in services that were raffled at a gala to benefit The Churchill School and Center that assists children with learning disabilities.

In June, the Manhattan team once again donated their time by hosting an “Evening of Pampering” at the local entrepreneurial workspace Alley.  “I reached out to The Alley, which is across the street from our location to increase awareness about our location”, stated Alexandra.  The event featured mini facials, manicures, and massages for the tenants.

One month earlier, the group hosted a Mother’s Day Pop-Up at The Vanguard Chelsea for residents.  This was also an event held to create awareness of Salons by JC Manhattan and introduce the array of services offered at the location.

It’s all about your passion

“Regardless of what your values are, your dreams are, or what the world requires of you, you must do it with passion or don’t even start”.  Giving it 150% and getting back triple is what motivates and keeps Alexandra moving. “I have no hidden agendas and I will be the first to hold myself accountable for my actions, good or bad”.  Taking the time to make people understand their duties, listening to needs, and also making sure her point of view is understood, are all qualities that make Alexandra a stand out Concierge.  “We believe Alexandra exemplifies all the qualities of a great concierge: she has a really positive attitude, is very patient, willing to learn, is a proactive problem solver, and most importantly, is highly motivated in ensuring the success of all our business owners”, stated Shaurja Ray.

In order to succeed in life and achieve, you must surround yourself with those who will empower you to create a better version of yourself. “I would have never been able to accomplish anything without Barrett, Shaurja and our amazing Salons by JC Manhattan community. I truly am surrounded by the best in the business. I consider myself a very lucky girl”.

It has been a true honor to learn from such an outstanding individual.  Alexandra consistently sets the bar higher and higher for herself and takes the role of Salons by JC Concierge to the next level.

Franchisee of the Year: Luis Moreno

On Monday, October 22, 2018, Salons by JC awarded franchisee, Luis Moreno, the honor of Franchisee of the Year. The award was given out at the 2nd annual franchise owners conference in Dallas, Texas.  Moreno owns two Salons by JC locations in Charlotte, North Carolina- Carmel Park and South Park and will be opening a third location in 2019.

Jack Griffey, Luis Moreno, and Cecil Miller

Meet Luis Moreno

Moreno was born in Bogota, Columbia and completed the majority of his schooling in the U.S.  He attended the Cornell University School of Engineering where he earned his BS and MEng.  “My career started in management consulting where I lead management projects as a principal consultant”, stated Moreno.  Eager to make a change in lifestyle, Moreno accepted an internal global consulting position. “I moved through positions with increased responsibility and scope which included assignments through the Americas, Europe, India, China, and New Zealand.”

Welcome to Salons by JC

Looking for a career change that would allow him to spend more time with family, Luis looked into franchising. This is where he was introduced to the Salons by JC business model.  “The business model is simple yet robust,” stated Moreno. “This concept has unique differentiators, that in my opinion, make it the superior salon suite franchise”.   After meeting Jack, Cecil and Steve on discovery day, he knew that this was the franchise he wanted to be a part of and grow with.  “Luis is just a good man, you feel better about life being around people of Luis’ quality”, states Salons by JC President, Steve Griffey.

The Perks of Being a Salons by JC Franchisee

“I look forward to spending time at my salons and seeing our talented people making a living in our beautiful and modern location”, states Moreno.  Taking the time to know each salon suite owner is one of Moreno’s favorite things about his franchise. “We have great diversity in backgrounds and they all share the same great love for their craft”.  This positive attitude makes Moreno a favorite among his salon suite owners. That energy spilled over to his two locations and won Moreno recognition for Highest Occupancy for both his Carmel Park and South Park locations.  Salons by JC President, Steve Griffey added, “Luis’ commitment to being a resource to his suite owners and helping them improve their quality of life is something we should all aspire to achieve personally and professionally.  That commitment is evidenced in the success he’s had in both of his locations.  I’m certain his family and the suite owners he supports will celebrate this well-deserved award with him”.  Indeed they did, surprising Luis with not one, but two celebratory parties at each location.

The Importance of Community

Luis and his wife Carey have two girls, Eliza and Eva.  In his spare time, he enjoys going on fun trips with his family.  Moreno is also very active in his community. “I am involved with the F3 Nation which is a network of free peer lead workouts for men.  F3’s mission is to plant, grow and serve local groups to invigorate male community leadership”, states Moreno.  “My life priorities are spending time with my family, making a better version of myself through my church and F3, and growing, enjoying, and serving my Salons by JC family”.

Still reeling in the success of coming home with 3 awards from our conference, Moreno and his team quickly got to work to host a SalonCentric Airstream event.  The “Glam on the Go” Airstream will make an appearance on Friday, November 16th at the Carmel Park location that has recently been expanded.   With a positive attitude and gratitude for all his rewards, Salons by JC is proud to have such a dedicated franchisee that is always willing to assist his community in any aspect when needed.  Luis’ dynamic makes him a superior choice as our 2018 Franchisee of the Year. Congratulations, once again and we wish you and your locations the best in 2019.

SalonCentric Airstream Stops at Salons by JC Spartanburg

Hot off the heels of a successful event at Salons by JC Towson, the SalonCentric Airstream rolled into South Carolina with an interactive event at Salons by JC Spartanburg.

Salon Owners Eric Bennett and Dagney Helms, along with their spectacular Concierge Megan, hosted the second Salons by JC and SalonCentric Airstream “Glam on the Go” event.

“The event was great, I really enjoyed working with SalonCentric – their entire team is so helpful,” Salons by JC Spartanburg owner Dagney Helms shares.

Although a strong thunderstorm threatened to rain down on the event, dozens turned out to partake in the Airstream and learn more about the Salons by JC and SalonCentric partnership. “Despite the rain, the Airstream event was a success!,” described Salon Business Coach Jo-Lynn Greenman, who was also in attendance.

The Show Must Go On!

In conjunction with SalonCentric, Salons by JC Spartanburg sponsored large giveaway baskets for both salon suite owners and attendees of the event. The Airstream provided opportunities for salon suite owners to get specific product and brand knowledge of what is offered at SalonCentric.

“All of our salon suite owners enjoyed learning about products SalonCentric offers and their team was great at answering all of their questions,” Dagney stated.

“Everyone had great ideas to help grow each other’s business both in and out of the salon,” Concierge, Megan Warren exclaimed.

Nestled inside the Hillcrest Shopping Center, the Airstream provided an excellent networking opportunity for other local businesses in the shopping center to learn about the many services provided by Salons by JC.  Attendees got a first-hand view of what sets the Spartanburg location apart from other salons in the area.

“Other businesses came out and supported us. Our big thing was being able to connect with the community, have some fun, and really getting to know the other businesses in our community,” Dagney shared.

A Community Effort

The event also helped establish an even greater connection with the SalonCentric in Spartanburg.  Their team of specialists provided a great deal of support to ensure the success of the event.

“SalonCentric was amazing! They helped us provide promotional items for the event and provided beautiful goodie bags for all attendees of the event, so there was plenty to go around,” concierge Megan stated.

Salon owner Dagney gushed about Megan’s role in planning the event and facilitating all contacts, saying “Megan planned the whole event and communicated with everyone at SalonCentric, we couldn’t be more thankful for her!”

Salon Owner Dagney Helms Attending the Airstream Event

As owners, Dagney and Eric recognized the importance of attending the event to provide a unique perspective of Salons by JC to those new to the concept. “It’s really good as an owner to go out and be a part of the experience. It’s great to interact with both salon suite owners and their clients and even those new to Salons by JC,” Dagney shared.

SalonCentric Rolls On Ahead

The dynamic partnership between Salons by JC and SalonCentric continues with two more Airstream events this year – and more to come in 2019.

“It is exciting to have such an enthusiastic partner in SalonCentric who is flexible with our increase in Airstream demands from other locations,” Franchise and Corporate Marketing Coordinator Marlene Romo Flores shares.

The Airstream Provides a Modern Learning Space On the Go

The next scheduled Airstream event is Friday, November 16th at Salons by JC Carmel Park in Charlotte, NC followed by a stop at Salons by JC Mobile on Monday, December 3rd. Flores mentions there is “plenty more to come in 2019” from the “Glam on the Go”.

Eric, Dagney, and Megan all look forward to more events with their local SalonCentric, as well as potentially hosting a second Airstream event.

“We would love to partner up with SalonCentric again in the future. They are an amazing company to work with!,” exclaimed Megan.
