With a new year comes new and exciting beginnings. In January 2019, husband and wife power duo, Cyndi and Peter Scher, will be opening their third Salons by JC location in Miami, Florida. Nestled in the heart of Miami-Dade County, Salons by JC- Kendale Lakes is on the fast track to bringing suite owners the freedom and flexibility to express their vision in the area’s most luxurious salon environment.
For some, the spirit and talent of entrepreneurship runs deep. This fits the bill when it comes to Cyndi and Peter Scher. They have been navigating their entrepreneurial path since 2001. They launched their joint business efforts with chain franchising, by opening a Cold Stone Creamery in Gainesville, FL. They later added a second store, then sold them off in 2007.
“We then opened Five Guys Burgers, and ended up owning 6 locations then we sold them all off,” Cyndi explains. “This gave us the opportunity to buy into our first Salons By JC in 2013. We loved the concept and business model so much we opened our first location in 2015 and a second in 2017. This is our first foray into the beauty industry. We have learned so much on the business and beauty side.”
In the summer of 2018, Cyndi and Peter’s newest location, Salons by JC- Kendale Lakes, reached capacity before ever opening its doors. The location now employs a vast waiting list of excited suite owners anxiously awaiting to be a part of this new location. This is a grand feat and one that is due entirely to Cyndi and Peter’s dedication to Salons by JC and their faith in the beauty community.
“There is a huge demand for salon suites in South Florida,” Peter shares. “Miami is a melting pot of culture and we have found that there is a huge desire to be an entrepreneur. There is a talent for hair, nails, brows, lashes, and skincare in general within this community.”
Cyndi and Peter’s third location will provide beauty professionals suites that are private, luxurious, and fully customizable.
“We are insulating the walls for noise,” says Peter. “We have quite a few skincare, massage, brows and lash businesses that don’t want to hear their neighbor through the walls. We will be doing this for all future locations as we see diversity in services provided.”
Cyndi also sees the value and importance of building good relationships. “We have a much more personal relationship with our suite owners than we did during our first year and a half. We can see that they appreciate that. I do a lot of marketing for our locations and also for our suite owners. This assists my Concierges to help walk-in clients find just the right person to provide a service and hopefully this will lead to a future appointment. It’s a win-win!”
Cyndi and Peter take on three locations by splitting up their roles. “I handle the marketing and have the “personal interaction” with our tenants,” Cyndi explains. “Peter does all the behind the scenes work – bookkeeping, working with contractors, handyman, plumbing, A/C, roof issues, etc. We spend one day a week at each location (sometimes more). If our suite owners need anything they can meet with us or talk to us briefly on that day. Between myself, Peter and our concierge, we feel we have a good presence in our salon.”
With four other competitors in Kendale Lakes, Cyndi and Peter have proven time and time again that their location is the best in town. Salons by JC-Kendale Lakes is located on the busiest street in Kendale, and in a very well known shopping center.
“The traffic count for this location is very high and we have plenty of parking that is well lit at night which is very important for all that work late in the evening hours. Come January 2019 we plan to open full and stay full by constantly adding value to our current tenants.”
Congratulations Cyndi and Peter on all your current and future success as entrepreneurs and Salons by JC owners franchisees. We look forward to your official opening in late January.
ABOUT Salons by JC
In 1997, Jack Griffey and Cecil Miller began their journey to transform the beauty industry one salon suite at a time. Like most young entrepreneurs, they started out with a big idea but had to learn how to start and run a business from scratch. After much perseverance and hard work, one year later, they opened Salons by JC in Dallas, Texas in 1998, welcoming beauty and wellness specialists who were ready to break free from the traditional salon model. The company has since moved its headquarters from Dallas to San Antonio, where it continues to grow through franchising. Today, Salons by JC has nearly 100 locations in 26 states and Canada and are looking to develop of 200 over the next several years. For more information, visit salonsbyjc.com or salons
