Manhattan Location Kicks Off Fashion Week in High Style

Feb 8, 2018

On Thursday, February 1, 2018, Salons by JC Manhattan, became the hottest spot in New York to get the latest in designer items.  The “Get Glam to Give Back” event, benefiting The Fashion Foundation, hosted over 60 attendees and raised over $1,400 for the organization in just 2 hours.  The guests adored the event space at the Manhattan location and the salon suite owners were thrilled to have new faces in the salon to see what services were offered.

The Fashion Foundation

Amanda Munz is the founder of The Fashion Foundation based in New York. Spending six years in the fashion industry interning for some of the top designers in the world, she saw a trend that was happening all too often.  Huge amounts of designer samples were being tossed in the garbage. This is when Amanda had her “a-ha moment” and, in her senior year at The Fashion Institute of Technology, she decided to create a non-profit that would change the fashion industry. By getting designers to donate excess inventory and samples, she would be able to resell them through The Fashion Foundation.  All profits raised from The Fashion Foundation provide underprivileged students in local New York schools with new school supplies, uniforms and countless other necessities.  “The beauty of The Fashion Foundation is that a little goes a long way.  You can buy a $5 shirt on our website and feel good knowing that shirt just provided a new backpack to a student”, stated Munz.

Let’s Meet for Lunch!

The partnership with Salons by JC Manhattan came about over a lunch meeting between Amanda and Shaurja Ray, Salons by JC Manhattan Developer.   Everyone has heard the saying, “always be prepared”, and Amanda took this advice to heart when she met her friend Shaurja for lunch one day to catch up.  “I was discussing different ways to help grow my business when Shaurja said he had an empty suite and then the wheels started turning and everything came together after that meeting”, stated a very happy Amanda.  Shaurja offered the use of one of the vacant suites to The Fashion Foundation to use as a showroom/sales space free of charge until they were able to lease that last suite out.

The Fusion of Beauty and Fashion

As Shaurja and Salons by JC Manhattan Concierge, Alexandra Moise, assisted in coordinating this event directly with Amanda, many of their salon suite owners donated their services for a raffle to benefit the foundation.  “Our goal is to create awareness for an amazing organization and to develop synergies between beauty and fashion. That’s very important in a city like Manhattan which is the epicenter for both industries and that have so much in common.”, stated Shaurja Ray.  But the donations for raffles items didn’t stop there. Some salon suite owners also donated items to help raise even more funds for this organization.  “We had 6 salon suite owners donate services for the raffle, they were all very excited to have our brand and theirs marketed to a new platform”, said Moise.  “It’s an amazing opportunity to be able to raise money for children that need that assistance and to have Salons by JC Manhattan showcase who we are and our values.”

Future Endeavors

After a very successful and enjoyable event, what’s next?  “Some of the salon suite owners expressed interest in having an event every couple of months because the vibe, atmosphere and event was a win/win for everyone!” stated Amanda.  The event was so successful, The New York Times ran a feature article on the event in their Fashion & Style section.  You can read that article by clicking here
